History of Saint Michael School - Fall River, MA

The history of Saint Michael School can trace its roots back to Father Ferraz who was appointed pastor of Saint Michael Church in 1917. Father Ferraz was an educator in his native Sao Miguel and his life's dream was to establish a parochial school in his new American parish.

This dream became a reality and classes begun in September 1931. The school was staffed by the Sisters of the Holy Union of the Sacred Hearts.

During its early history Saint Michael School was housed in three different buildings in the north end of the city. As enrollment continued to increase the parishioners of Saint Michael School, were committed to building a new school. The modern educational facility was completed in 1957 and was blessed by Bishop Connolly on September 23, 1957.

Today, Saint Michael School is still a strong parish school. It is currently staffed by a group of dedicated lay teachers with the eighth Holy Union Sister serving as principal.
